VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THE "LAUNCHING" SECTION BELOW.
Frequently Asked Questions
Casino Poker
7/10/96
-Launching-
Q. How do I configure Poker to launch from on-line connections?
A. You need to configure your browser to point towards a launcher for Poker.
This shouldn't be required if you have installed another Kesmai product
for launching.
These instructions show how:
Launcher Configuration (you need this to launch from the WWW):
=============================================================
Note: These directions will vary depending upon the version of Netscape
Navigator (TM) you are using. Microsoft's Internet Explorer (TM) works in a
very similar manner. If you're running Mosaic, you can accomplish these steps
in the Options menu under Tools.
1. Run Netscape Navigator (TM)
2. Select Preferences from the Options menu.
3. Select the tab labeled "Helper Apps".
4. Select the button on the Helper Apps screen labeled "Create New Type."
5. Enter "application" for the Mime type.
6. Enter "x-klaunch" for the Mime subtype.
7. Click OK for the Configure New Mime Type dialog.
8. Enter "LCH" for the file extensions.
9. Select the radio button beside the action "launch the application".
10. Select the Browse button on the lower right corner of the helper app screen.
11. Browse to the directory where you installed Poker . If you are using
Windows95, select "klnch32.exe", otherwise select "klaunch.exe".
12. Select the OK button on the Browse dialog.
13. Select OK at the bottom of the Preferences screen.
14. Select Save Options from the Options menu in Netscape.
That's it. You are now ready to launch Poker from the Web.
Q. What does "Launch file not found!" mean?
A: Poker is an online game and therefore must be played connected to a server,
which runs at your service provider. To play Poker you must launch it on-line
from the service provider launch page for Casino Poker, which will download the
launch file and start Poker.
-The Lobby-
Q. How do I see where the other players are?
A: The menu option "User/List Table Players" will display the players at
tables. You can double-click on a name in the list to go to the same table
as that player.
Q. Why are the "Group" menu items greyed out?
A: You must select a table (either with "Game/Pick Game" or by clicking on the
tables to the right of the chat area) before you can perform a group
operation. Groups are only useful if you want several players to move to a
common table, they aren't much good with a single player.
-The tables (in general)-
Q. What's with the chat window that appears?
A: The chat window gives you an easy place to review conversation as it
occurs. You can resize it at resolutions higher than 640x480 and you'll find
that after you finish making a bet your cursor automatically moves to the
Chat window so you can continue any conversation you were having.
Q. Hey! My menu is stuck!
A: This happens occasionally when an animation is playing that must be
completed (such as cards being dealt). If you wait a short period the menu
will become un-stuck.
Q. I can't read the help file because I need to keep betting!
A: You can use the "Poker/Autobets" menu option to have your computer play for
you. This will allow you to read the help file or get a drink, etc. You
should read the help files before you play a variant of poker you are
unfamiliar with.
Q. The computer players seem to fold a lot.
A: Maybe they know something you don't :-). Computer players are programmed to
be conservative, which is an effective winning strategy over time.
-The Tables in general-
Q. Sometimes I "fold" when I didn't hit the fold button?
A. This indicates you are having some connection problems with the server.
The game folds you rather than holding up the entire table of players.
Usually these conditions will correct themselves within a short period.
However if you continue to experience difficulties you might try exiting
Poker (or your disconnecting entirely) and coming back in.
-Omaha Hold'em-
Q. I should have won a hand, but I didn't, what's wrong?
A: Make sure to read the help file on Omaha Hold'em. The Hold'em games use a
combination hand formed from cards you have and cards on "the board" that
everybody shares. This makes for much more exciting betting strategy but is
confusing to first-time players. The rules are fully explained in the help
file.
-Texas Hold'em-
Q. I should have won a hand, but I didn't, what's wrong?
A: Make sure to read the help file on Texas Hold'em. The Hold'em games use a
combination hand formed from cards you have and cards on "the board" that
everybody shares. This makes for much more exciting betting strategy but is
confusing to first-time players. The rules are fully explained in the help
file.
